The Mercedes-Benz Actros ProCabin has won the 2026 Australasian Truck of the Year award.
Australasian Truck of the Year judges made the announcement at the NZ Road Trucking Hall of Fame in Invercargill, New Zealand, on Friday.
“We are proud the Mercedes-Benz Actros ProCabin has been recognised as the Australasian Truck of the Year for 2026,” says Daimler Truck Australia Pacific Vice President Sales, Marketing and Operations, Andrew Assimo.
“The Actros ProCabin was shaped to cut fuel consumption even further, delivering our customers and edge that is even more valuable as fuel prices rise,” Mr Assimo says.
“We’re thrilled this focus on real-world efficiency, as well our dedication to the most advanced safety, has been recognised by the Australasian Truck of the Year judges,” he concludes.
The judges praised the Actros ProCabin’s state-of-the-art design and technology.
“The launch of the ProCabin as part of the Mercedes Benz range builds on the great strides the brand has made, in terms of cutting edge technology,” says Dave McCoid; Editorial Director of New Zealand Trucking Media and International Truck of the Year (IToY) Associate Member for New Zealand.
Freelance truck journalist and IToY Associate Member for Australia, Tim Giles says the launch of the ProCabin takes the Mercedes Benz range into new territory.
“This truck is a step-change from other trucks on the market, and great to drive. The new cabin design houses an innovative air management system, and combining this with the latest state-of-the-art in Daimler safety technology creates a truck which is up for any task,” he says.
Mercedes-Benz extended the front of the new Actros ProCabin by 80mm and then rounded off the face to reduce drag and cut fuel consumption.
The ProCabin design removes unwanted gaps and joints and guides air either around the cabin or straight into the truck’s cooling system.
This concentration of the airflow maintains the cooling effectiveness of the Actros.
Based on the International Truck of the Year (IToY) rules, the annual award is presented to the truck introduced into the Australasian market in the past year, which has made the most significant contribution to road transport safety and efficiency. This judgement relies on several critical criteria, including technological innovation, comfort, safety, driveability, fuel economy, environmental ‘footprint' and Total Cost of Ownership.
